Dear P6 parents, SA1 is finally over!!! You have seen your child’s results which would give you a good indication of his performance in the first half of the year. If you are concerned that he is underperforming and feel that the remediation he is getting is insufficient to prepare him for this crucial examination in September (PSLE), KIWI learning Centre has come up with workshops for Mathematics and English to address your concerns.
Conducted in a small group setting (not more than 8 students), this focused learning environment will provide your child with more opportunities to ask questions and given more attention to his learning needs. P6 2-day Mathematics workshop (a total of 6 hours) We will be covering the 4 key strategies:
Advanced Model Drawing, Equation, Working Backward, Number x Each Value. These are the 4 strategies which students have great difficulty applying to solve challenging problem sums. Students will be taught how to identify the characteristics of these strategies and learn the steps to solve these problem sums with confidence. In addition, students will also get to see the relationship between Fraction and Percentage, to help them to solve integrated questions that combines these two topics together in a problem sum. Please see the attachment for details.
1-Day workshop (2.5 hrs) on Number Pattern (For P5/P6 students) Number pattern is a challenging topic as many students have difficulty recognizing the number pattern in the Long Answer Question. This inability to recognize the pattern means that students will be unable to generalize the formula needed to calculate the answer at a higher order. In this workshop, students will be shown how to recognize the 3 basic types of number patterns. They will also be taught how to modify the generalised formulae from the basic types for different variations of the number pattern. Please see the attachment for details.
P6 2-day English Paper 2 workshop (a total of 6 hours) By now, most students would have done numerous revision worksheets and practice papers. Besides practising questions to keep the momentum going, what students really need is for their teachers to consolidate their learning, highlight important concepts, remind them the pitfalls and common mistakes to avoid, and learn the examination skills in order to excel in the examination.
The focus of the 2-day workshop is to provide help to the abovementioned need of the students. In a small group setting, focused teaching on the various key aspects of English paper 2 will be conducted, complemented with notes and questions to assess and reinforce the students’ learning. In addition to exposure to a wide variety of questions, students will also be provided with supplementary notes on word classes, tenses, Subject-Verb Agreement, … etc, and reference learning sheets on Spelling and Vocabulary, In view that this is the last holiday workshop before PSLE, all key sections of English Paper 2 will be covered. Please see the attachment for details.
