About us...
At KIWI Learning Centre, we want our students to be the best that they can be. We want our students to be assured that they can do better in school when we become partners in their learning journey. In other words, every student has the confidence to say to himself or herself that I Know I Will Improve – KIWI.
How do we achieve that?
Our tutors are committed, responsible and caring. We are result-oriented and monitor our students’ progress closely to ensure that learning takes place and no one gets left behind. To make learning more impactful, we use authentic examples and scenarios so that our students understand concepts at a much deeper level.
We strongly believe that our students learn much better when they are happy and look forward to attending their weekly lessons with us! Thus, we take great effort to make learning a fun and enjoyable experience using games to excite and engage the learners.
With our many years of teaching experience, we are able to point out misconceptions and common mistakes made by students, so that our students will not make the same mistakes in their examinations. We also teach our students effective strategies and examination skills so that they can do even better. During our lessons, we strive to develop our students critical thinking skills by encouraging them to ask questions and think out of the box for solutions.
Good teachers are also good learners. We make it our commitment to learn continually and refine our teaching pedagogy. We also constantly update our teaching and assessment materials so that they stay relevant and consistent with MOE’s latest syllabus.

KIWI Learning Centre was founded by two partners:

Mr. Johnathan Lim. He is a former MOE school teacher with 12 years of teaching experience at upper primary level and specialises in both English and Mathematics.
He complements his clear teaching with a large repertoire of resources to help his students. He also created the ARCH programme – an effective teaching method that has helped many of his students improve significantly. |

Ms. Melissa Song. She is an active contributor in PSLE parents FB groups who is well-known for her detailed and clear explanations.
She specialises in small group teaching. She taught in primary schools and had many years of coaching experience in various reputable tuition centres. She had conducted numerous Mathematics enrichment workshops including Primary Olympiad, Challenging Problem Sums Solving and 'Conquer Problem Sums' in many primary schools. |

Something to ponder about ... Is Curiousity a good thing?

Do you agree that children are borne with a natural curiosity about the world around them?
You may have found it adorable when you child became old enough to ask you the first few questions about the world around him. However, as the questions grew in quantity (and difficulty), you almost wished that the bombardment would stop! Well, despite the hassle, you should be happy that your child is asking questions because the more he ASKS, the more he LEARNS!! :) The more he UNDERSTANDS, the more he will know how to APPLY:) At the kindergarten, children are encouraged to ask questions. But, when they reach primary school level, especially at the upper levels, they are told to be quiet and pay attention to the lesson instead! It is understandable because the curriculum time is limited and it is made shorter with movement from class to class (we know because we were also teachers before!). In addition, with a class size of 35 to 42 students, if only half the students in the class ask a question, there is no way the teacher is able to complete the syllabus! ;p |

Most children lose their interest to learn when their questions are not answered. After all, nobody likes to be ignored or treated as unimportant. When left unchecked, the disinterest accumulates and eventually the child will shut the subject off completely.
So, how do we overcome this problem?
Well, there are 4 ways to help:
1) Approach the school subject teacher to schedule a time after school to clear his doubts. Be understanding, teachers are really very busy people!
2) Peer teaching -> Approach a better student in class and seek clarification. That’s why it is important to make friends - friends help each other.
3) Seek the help of your child's tutor after the lesson for clarification.
4) Get help from social media platforms! There are a lot of support groups in Facebook where you can ask for help.
