2 New topics were inserted. They were 'Pie Chart' & 'Nets'. Out of these 2 topics, Nets is the topic that P4 students need more practice as it requires visualization skills.
Do note that the topic 'Nets' is NOT about teaching your child how to use the ATM card😄
So, what is Nets?
A Net is a two-dimensional figure that can be folded (with NO OVERLAPPING) into a three-dimensional solid figure.
The nets of the solids that your child will learn are Cube, Cuboid, Prism and Pyramid (see pic on the right for an example of a net for the respective solid).
Click the link below to find out more about Nets!
So, how to help your child improve his visualization skills? Nothing beats by doing some hands-on activity! 😄
Below are the 2 activities recommended and hope they are useful to you 😄
Buy an origami book OR watch origami YouTube videos (see example pictures below) and follow the guides and start folding! Try it! Is FUN!
Alternatively, if you plan to buy some IKEA boxes, let your child follow the instructions and fold up the boxes!
2. Trace out the Nets on the school textbook (see pictures below for some examples).
Cut them out and start folding them. Tell your child to select one of the faces as the BASE. Observe how other faces joined to one another! Repeat the steps by selecting a DIFFERENCE face as the base and observe how other faces joined to one another again!
P5 (changes with effect Yr 2025):
Removal of topics like 'Average' & 'Ratio'. These 2 topics will be moved to P6 in Yr 2026.
With the changes in the P5 math syllabus, in terms of problem sums ... sadly, there aren't many changes😁The problem sums that we used to see in ratio topic will appear in Fractions or Percentage topic. However, the good news is.... P5 students can skip the problem sums relating to Average topic for the time being😄
P6 (changes with effect Yr 2026):
->2 new topics are added. They are Average & Ratio.
